Once upon a time, before I became a web developer, I worked doing sound and light for events. Like web development, the hours tend to be long, and the work tends to attract anti-social oddballs. Unlike web development, you deal with rock stars.

As with many sites, images are an important part of the design for my art gallery listings site, The Gallery Guide. The tricky part is that the site is full of user-generated content, so not all of the listings have images attached.

In a recent article on OS Training, Steve Burge asks Why Are There So Few Drupal 8 Themes? It’s true that the number of themes out there is pretty low, and Steve’s article considers some possible reasons for that, mainly relating to the supply side of the market. I’d prefer to focus on the demand side in answering that question.

I got started with task runners a while ago using Grunt, thanks to an excellent 24 ways article by Chris Coyier. Lately I’ve been using Gulp more, and all the cool kids seem to be going that way, so for the Drupal 8 version of The Gallery Guide, I’ve decided to use Gulp.

As happens so often, real life has been getting in the way of making more progress on my attempts to migrate The Gallery Guide from Drupal 6 to 8.

Having eventually got my new VM up and running, I ended up down another rabbit hole for a little while. It took me longer than it should have done to figure out that configuration can be included in an installation profile.
